Lockwood & Co, The Screaming Staircase. By Jonathan
Stroud
Lucy, George, and Anthony—who is called Lockwood in my head—
are some of my favorite characters.
When I say favorite, I don’t just mean in this novel, I mean from every book I’ve ever read, every movie I’ve ever seen. The perfect way these characters are written and how they so wonderfully stand out from each other deserves a standing ovation.

The detective agency ‘Lockwood and Company’ is one run by
children with no adult supervision. These detectives, however, are hunting the
paranormal and uncovering crimes committed and buried away.
In this novel, Mr. Stroud has found a way to scare the crap
out of you and make you want to walk behind the kids so that you’re safe.
Because you’d surely get everyone killed if you did the courageous thing and
put yourself in the front of the group to protect everyone. The world he has
built is phenomenal, and getting lost in it is how I spend every Sunday.
I don’t know how many times I’ve read the first novel in the
Lockwood & Co series, but I enjoy it every single time.
The Screaming Staircase is a novel filled with mystery and
intrigue. It’s Sherlock Holmes meets the Good Old Boys of Yazoo. It keeps you
looking over your shoulder and guessing to the end. I would recommend this book
series to readers of all ages.
I always mention grammar in my reviews; however, there is no
need because Mr. Stroud is a wizard with words.
